A minute a week, and nothing to rebuild at the end

  1. Step 1: Log each week

Only direct client contact counts toward the LMFT, so that is what each week asks for, checked against 8 NYCRR 79-10.3 as you log it.

  2. Step 2: Your supervisor confirms by link

Send your weeks every month or two. Your supervisor opens a link and confirms them: no account, no password, always free for them.

  3. Step 3: NYSED's forms, filled in

Form 4B for each supervised experience, and Form 4D if you work toward the diagnostic privilege, filled in from your logged weeks.

Years of hours. A Form 4B for each supervised experience.

  • “Do video sessions count?”

NYSED's permit FAQ counts only direct face-to-face sessions with clients and doesn't say whether video is face-to-face; the State Board's draft minutes of October 22, 2021 say client contact hours “completed through distance technology may be submitted on Form 4B”. Until NYSED confirms, the app keeps them apart and never counts them as settled.

  • “Can my LMHC supervisor sign?”

Not under the current regulation. The app checks your supervisor against NYSED's list.

  • “I want the diagnostic privilege too.”

Its hours are tracked alongside the license's, with the supervisor it needs.

  • “My permit is running out.”

Its dates are watched, with reminders before an extension is due.

How we check the facts

Meli Pil, the founder of Licensure Hours

A note from the founder

“When I finished school, nobody handed me a map. Which form first? Who signs what? Did I even need the diagnostic privilege, and would my hours count toward it? Then my job changed, and every answer changed with it.

Licensure Hours is the map I wanted. I really hope it makes this easier for you.”

No. Licensure Hours is independent and not affiliated with NYSED. Every rule in our guides links NYSED's own page or regulation, and NYSED decides every application.

No. They get a link by email, see the weeks you sent, and confirm them in their browser. It is free for them.

Is there exam prep for the AMFTRB exam?

Not yet. Nothing is for sale for the AMFTRB exam; the free guide explains the exam, its cost and its dates.

What does it cost?

Free for 30 days, no card. Then $40 once, or $20 a year. Your supervisor never pays.
